On the 14th, BOS Semiconductors, a fabless company specializing in automotive semiconductors, announced that it has obtained the ISO 26262 Functional Safety Management (FSM) certification, the international standard for automotive functional safety, from  TUV Rheinland, a global evaluation and certification body based in Germany.

ISO 26262, established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 2011, is an international standard for automotive functional safety aimed at preventing accidents caused by errors in the electrical and electronic systems of vehicles. Given that vehicle defects directly affect the safety of drivers and pedestrians, evaluating and managing the functional safety of electrical and electronic systems installed in vehicles is considered crucial.

A representative from BOS Semiconductors stated regarding the ISO 26262 certification, "BOS Semiconductors has been recognized for its high level of competence in the development process of functional safety system, securing the capability to develop processes up to the maximum ASIL-D level." By aligning with market demands, BOS Semiconductors has secured credibility in developing automotive functional safety products at the highest level, while meeting the requirements of the end users.

BOS Semiconductors focuses on the development of high-performance system-on-chip(SoC) products necessary for future automotive innovations such as autonomous driving and the evolution of advanced driver assistance systems, leveraging its extensive experience in semiconductor design and commercialization for automotive applications. Currently, the company is developing customized automotive SoC based on its core semiconductor design and software-related technologies. In the long term, the compnay plans to expand its business into future mobility sectors such as urban air mobility (UAM) and robotics.

The AI accelerator system-on-chip (SoC) currently being developed by BOS Semiconductors facilitates the processing of neural network model data used in various perception and decision-making tasks in autonomous driving. As autonomous vehicles must perceive, decide, and control themselves in real-time changing road environments without human intervention, ensuring safety and reliability is paramount. To meet the safety design requirements demanded by autonomous driving vehicles, BOS Semiconductors is establishing comprehensive and stringent process standards, from product planning and development to design, production, and the identification and evaluation of potential safety risks.

Jaehong Park, CEO of BOS Semiconductors, stated, "This ISO 26262 FSM certification demonstrates our firm commitment to providing customers automotive solutions with the highest safety quality ." He added, "In future product development processes, we plan to adhere to functional safety processes to contribute to shaping the future of mobility industry with more focus on safety and reliability."
